Yippiekiyay!

It’s the battle cry of the community hero.

You know it’s going to be a tough fight, but that’s why you do it.

We’re in the business of serving heroes

We started with a simple idea—that bureaucratic obstacles shouldn’t prevent people from doing good.

The barriers to starting a nonprofit organization and getting 501(c)3 Tax-Exempt Status from the IRS have become too complicated, expensive, and time consuming.  Many heroes are forced to give up before their dream sees the light of day. We are here to change that.

We are a socially oriented company with a staff who cares about your mission.  Our technologies are simple to use and come with a human touch. Our mission is to help nonprofit heroes reach their true potential. We understand what it takes because our team has been right where you are now. We answer the question so many social change agents like you have been asking for decades: Why can’t online solutions have a heart and a brain?

Yippiekiyay!

Jack Harvey

Jack Harvey

Solutions Consultant

Jack Harvey is a student at the Colorado School of Mines, and it is the goal of management at Yippiekiyay to undermine his pursuit of a Geology degree so he can work (and yawn) year round instead of limiting himself to summer breaks at Yippiekiyay. He is as brilliant as he is in need of coffee and Twizzlers, and his penchant for helping people make the world a better place has earned him the love of our staff and customers alike. But he may forget to enter the dates in the spreadsheets!

Frequently asked questions

501(c)3

How long does IRS approval of tax-exempt status take?
In 2013 and 2014,the average IRS approval time ranged from 10 to 18+ months - but even with the Full 1023 Application for 501(c)3 Tax Exempt Status, Yippiekiyay files averaged less than four months. At this time, the average approval time for Yippiekiyay customer applications is 4 to 8 weeks.
What is Social Business?
Social business refers to the new breed of companies - whether nonprofits, B corporations or mainstream service providers looking to change the world and deliver the highest value first - and we believe if we're truly helping people, the money will follow. It is about being an advocate for your customers and always putting their needs ahead of yours. It is about being human first.

NONPROFIT RESOURCES

Does the IRS have a clearinghouse for related information?
The IRS has a huge website which can be difficult to navigate. One tip is to use Google to search the irs.gov site. View important resources for information on the Form 1023 tax-exempt approval status here. And basic information on the Form 990 is here. The Independent Sector is a Washington, D.C. based trade association with an extremely forward looking advocacy mission. They offer excellent educational opportunities and governance resources.

PROCESS

How can you guarantee you are twice as fast for tax-exempt approval?
Expertise, technology and years of trial and error to find the right formula for fast approval. Just as we promise to be as human as possible with our customers, we do the same with the good folks at the IRS. Like anywhere else, we hear about the mistakes of a handful of people, while thousands of others strive to do a great job. If you work to help them do that, you can get super fast approval times.
Is the Yippiekiyay process completed online or offline?
Yippiekiyay offers smart technology to automate the completion of Form 1023 and Form 990. Customers are assigned a nonprofit expert to assist in the completion of their 1023 application and reporting for the 990 combined with state charity registration. While the process mostly takes place online, we empower that experience with the human touch. Whether you have a difficult 1023 to complete or a tough time with technology- your expert is there to help you online or offline. (And we guarantee that help always comes from a human being!)
What is the actual cost of filing for tax-exempt status?
The amount of the user fee paid to the government depends on the applying organization's average annual gross receipts. If the organization's average annual gross receipts have exceeded or will exceed $10,000 annually over a four-year period, the fee is $850. If gross receipts have not exceeded or will not exceed $10,000 annually over a four-year period, the user fee is $400. An applicant must certify its gross receipts in Part XI of the Form 1023. Yippiekiyay's fees are separate from the required state and federal fees and can be found on our product pages. Your personal nonprofit expert is included in the cost to assist with any needs you have.
How do your guarantees work?
The most important Yippiekiyay guarantee is your money will be refunded if you are not satisfied with your membership or service. We raise the bar and guarantee not only approval of your 1023, but if you fail to receive 1023 approval in less than half the average processing time the IRS is declaring for your application, we will refund the applicable Form 1023 fees paid. You can access the IRS approval estimate by calling the IRS Exempt Organizations Hotline at toll-free 877-829-5500. We guarantee with our major services, you will always be helped by a human being - no bots, no muzac. Contact us directly with any questions you have. See? If our technology can't help you, our people will!
